Astronomical monstrance clock

This vase, probably found in the Etruscan city of Cerveteri, is evidence of the widespread reach of Athenian products in the 6th century BC. The elaborate shape, with a foot made separately, and the decoration are quite ambitious. The friezes were inspired by animals and are evidence of the influence of styles from Corinth (Greece). On the main side the hero Perseus is chased by Gorgons (mythical female beings whose look turns the beholder into stone) after murdering their sister Medusa, while Athena and Hades stand nearby.
